DL Hughley Says That This is Overrated...
Updated: Mar 27, 2019
I was honored that The YES! Show received an invite to the 2019 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena on February 13, 2019 in Pasadena, California. Thank you so much for having me TV One!
It was so comforting to see my people working in excellence as they introduced their new line-up and new entertainment network: CLEO TV...excuse me as I hashtag. #BlackExcellence. But a question was raised as I sat there loving the beauty of what TV One represented. Is comfort overrated? According to comedian DL Hughley, Yes it is. You see, there is a time where comfort is necessary, refreshing and rejuvenating...unless you've sat down in an audience with this original "King of Comedy". Man, back in the day, this joker could work a crowd and destroy and embarrass anyone in the audience with his "insult comedy" and we lived for it! lol He was one of the bests at it, just like Bob Hope. Now, his insults are directed to politics, headlines and world news from the black perspective and it has been great! Except for that...ummm hmmm, situation regard him going in on the alleged "angry black woman". But I'm not here to talk about that, Madam Noir, did a great job breaking that story down, so talk to them if interested. Thanks, ladies!
I'm here to discuss his new show: The DL Hughley Show slated to premiere March 18, 2019 on TV One. I got a chance to speak with the amazing Michelle Rice, General Manager, TV One and CLEO TV, along with DL, whom mentioned how this project feels like one of the most significant things he has done. He and Michelle had many laughs discussing the partnership, but one thing stuck out to me and many people would agree. Rice praised Hughley, exclaiming, "He is one of the smartest authentic voices out there." Facts are facts. Hughley is not only a comedian with a strong fan base of over 1.3 million, but he is a two time New York Times Best Seller, Peabody Recipient, 2012 Original King of Comedy, Actor and a voice for the people now that social media has been amplified. I must admit, I never knew this side to him, until twitter and Instagram. What about you? Either way, I'm here for it. His timeline is flowing with hot topics keeping us #woke in this world of racism, injustice, unfair treatment and bias. He also keeps us laughing and encouraged with other posts.
According to General Manager, Michelle Rice, this was the very reason the partnership was so easy. They believe in DL. TV One feels that he is "one of the smartest and authentic voices out there". Take a look at the clip below and get ready, because DL Hughley will tackle The Kardashians, Marriage Colin Kaepernick and more on his new late-night show, coming to TV One.
