April 11, 2020 - The Clark Sisters Movie to Air on Lifetime

Updated: Nov 7, 2020

I had such a pleasure interviewing the cast of the upcoming movie on Lifetime portraying the legendary Clark Sisters. Casting director, Twinkie Byrd, did an amazing job with this cast. Not only are their acting skills superb, their voices are IDENTICAL to the distinctive voice of Twinkie, Karen, Dorinda, Denise and Jacky! And rumor has it that a soundtrack from the movie may be available for purchase, according to one of the execs, Dr. Holly Carter.

Now, you don't have to take my word for it, but this movie is a MUST SEE! That's right, chile. Get your popcorn and chicken, then gather your girlfriends, your church friends, your boo or go solo and have a watch party for its debut during the Easter weekend, April 11, 2020 on Lifetime at 8pm.

Until that day comes, watch my interview on The YES! Show below. We discuss their vocal training with Donald B. Lawrence, their experience meeting the REAL Clark Sisters and how the fans of the Clark Sisters will check you in a heart beat if you don't put "respek" on their name! Oooooh, chile, lolol! The actress that plays Dorinda (Shelea Frazier) chuckled as she admitted to be a victim of their wrath. She said the saints remind her that her cute outfits on instagram are "scantily clad" at times. She smiled, saying, "It's all in love." Watch below.

Actress Raven Goodwin had my heart when she expressed the responsibility and care of portraying the one and only Denise Clark Bradford. Though she's no stranger to the silver screen, this role marked her first biopic. Raven admits that it was a lot of pressure, but it felt like it was meant to be. She explains, "As I played Ms. Denise, I had to humanize her and make sure people saw the love that she had for her sisters and the love her sisters had for her." Goodwin was very sincere in her response, as she knew a lot of people have commented on the matter, but she refused to read any comments at all. Watch the video below as this beautiful and talented queen explains her preparation for the role.

If you've been keeping up with the making of this film like most fans of the legendary Clark Sisters, you are aware of the controversy that Raven Goodwin alluded to. I had to ask once more after reading and viewing several articles and videos on the question: "Was Denise Clark Bradford contacted or included in the making of this made for tv film?" Well, ladies and gentlemen, it was answered and the final word was given by one of the executive producers that I honor and respect, Dr. Holly Carter. Take a look at our last video and determine your decision for yourself. As you watch, you'll also enjoy the beautiful words of the legendary Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. Kierra Sheard discusses how she and her family got emotional on set as they witness the honest portrayal of her grandmother on set played by actress, Aunjanue Ellis. When you guys see the film, you will singing her praises as well...TRUST! She literally was Dr. Mattie Moss Clark reincarnated...now that's figurative, as a Christian, I don't believe in all that reincarnation stuff. lol But I digress. Watch below and tell me your thoughts.

The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel —from executive producers and Grammy Award winners Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliott —premieres Saturday, April 11th at 8pm ET/PT on Lifetime. The authorized musical of incomparable gospel singers, The Clark Sisters, recounts the story of the highest selling female gospel group in history and their trailblazing mother, Mattie Moss Clark (Aunjanue Ellis). Credited with bringing Gospel music to the mainstream, the five Clark sisters (Christina Bell as "Twinkie," Kierra Sheard as "Karen," Shelea Frazier as "Dorinda," Raven Goodwin as "Denise," Angela Birchett as "Jacky") overcame humble beginnings in Detroit, enduring abuse, loss, rejection, betrayal, and sibling rivalries to achieve international fame as icons of the Gospel music industry.

Christine Swanson (Chicago P.D.) directed, based on a script written by Sylvia L. Jones and Camille Tucker. Executive producers include Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliot and Loretha Jones. Holly Carter also executive produces for Releve Entertainment while Shakim Compere executive produces for Flavor Unit. #TheClarkSisters @LifetimeTV
